Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): A long-standing drinking water dispute in Chanaut village near Hansi has been resolved following the intervention of Union Minister for Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal. Following the Union Minister’s announcement and departmental approval for a new four-inch “T-connection” to be installed from the main water pipeline, residents of the village announced the end of their ongoing protest.
The decision was shared during a press conference at the PWD Rest House in Hansi. The high-level meeting was attended by Haryana Public Works and Public Health Engineering Minister Ranbir Singh Gangwa, Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Barala, local MLA Vinod Bhayana, Deputy Commissioner Rahul Narwal, and Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar. The public representatives and administrative officers held detailed discussions with the village protest committee and departmental engineers to reach a swift, on-the-spot solution.
Union Minister Manohar Lal explained that two major issues had emerged during the execution of the state’s drinking water pipeline project in Chanaut. First, the villagers demanded a dedicated supply connection from the main pipeline passing near their village. Second, technical and administrative hurdles had arisen due to the widening and construction of the national highway where the pipeline was laid.
After reviewing a detailed report from technical experts, the government determined that the main pipeline has sufficient capacity. Providing an additional connection to Chanaut will not adversely impact the water supply of any other village in the region. Consequently, the department approved the installation of the four-inch T-connection.
The Union Minister clarified that the village’s existing drinking water infrastructure will continue to operate as usual without any changes. The new four-inch line will serve as an additional and alternative supply system. If the village’s water demand increases in the future or the current system faces disruptions, the new connection will be activated to supply additional water, ensuring the long-term needs of the growing population are met.
Manohar Lal directed administrative officials to quickly resolve the technical obstacles linked to the national highway project and prioritize the installation of the new T-connection. He reiterated that the government remains committed to delivering clean and adequate drinking water to every village and city in the state.
Members of the protest committee and village representatives expressed their gratitude to the Union Minister and other public representatives for listening to their grievances and offering a practical solution. They expressed full confidence in the administration’s assurances and unanimously decided to end their protest, hoping that the public health department would execute the work within the scheduled timeframe to permanently resolve the local water crisis.
