New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): India expressed deep concern over the sudden escalation of tensions in West Asia, urging all involved parties to exercise maximum restraint and immediately return to dialogue. The diplomatic intervention followed fresh military actions by the United States, which launched targeted strikes against Iran in retaliation for Tehran’s recent attacks on commercial shipping vessels navigating the strategic Strait of Hormuz. In response, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, strongly condemned the American strikes, characterizing them as major violations of established bilateral understandings.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted that these rapidly unfolding developments pose a severe threat to regional peace and stability. Indian diplomats emphasized the critical importance of protecting civilian lives and ensuring the unhindered flow of global commerce and global energy supplies through vital international waterways. New Delhi called for a swift return to diplomatic channels, reiterating that a lasting and peaceful solution to the regional friction can only be achieved through structured dialogue and comprehensive diplomacy.
Stability across West Asia remains an absolute strategic priority for India due to its deep economic and geopolitical ties to the region. The Gulf corridor supplies a significant share of India’s crude oil requirements and hosts a massive Indian expatriate population whose welfare is closely monitored by New Delhi. Any prolonged disruptions to these critical maritime shipping lanes could negatively impact India’s energy security, global trade operations, and the safety of millions of Indian nationals residing across the region.
