IMD Forecasts Wet Week for Himachal Pradesh; Authorities Warn of Heavy Rain, Flooding and Slope Failures

Monsoon Fury: IMD Issues Red Alert in Punjab, Himachal and Uttarakhand

Shimla (Rajeev Sharma): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued monsoon activity across Himachal Pradesh, with heavy rainfall expected to affect several districts over the coming days. In view of the forecast, authorities have advised residents and tourists to remain cautious as the possibility of landslides, flash floods and road disruptions increases.

According to the weather department, the southwest monsoon has strengthened over the region, creating conditions favourable for widespread rainfall across both lower and higher elevations. The current spell is expected to continue for nearly a week, with isolated places likely to receive intense showers.

Rainfall Brings Cooler Conditions

Many parts of the state received light to moderate rain during the past 24 hours, resulting in a noticeable fall in daytime temperatures. The showers also improved moisture levels across agricultural areas, although officials warned that prolonged rainfall could create difficulties in hilly terrain.

Weather experts said rainfall intensity may vary from district to district, with some regions likely to witness prolonged spells accompanied by thunderstorms.

Risk of Weather-Related Incidents

The Meteorological Department has cautioned that continuous rain could increase the risk of landslides, falling rocks, overflowing streams and localized flooding. Waterlogging is also possible in low-lying areas, while traffic movement may be affected due to blocked roads and reduced visibility.

Emergency agencies have been asked to stay prepared, particularly in districts that frequently witness monsoon-related incidents.

Public Asked to Remain Alert

The state administration has appealed to people to avoid venturing near rivers, seasonal streams and unstable hill slopes during periods of heavy rain. Tourists travelling to mountainous destinations have also been advised to monitor weather updates before beginning their journeys.

Officials have encouraged residents to follow advisories issued by district authorities and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.

With the monsoon expected to remain active throughout the week, Himachal Pradesh is likely to continue experiencing frequent showers, making vigilance essential for both locals and visitors.
