Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): —Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that the upcoming science centre in Ambala, being constructed at a cost of 85 crore rupees, will be named after the legendary freedom fighter and founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. Speaking during a commemorative event marking the birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. Mookerjee in Ambala, Saini also revealed that a grand statue of the nationalist leader will be installed near the war memorial currently under construction. The Chief Minister emphasised that Dr. Mookerjee’s life remains a perennial source of inspiration for national service, sacrifice, and core principles, urging the newer generation to adopt his values and ideals.
The event was also attended by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Jagat Prakash Nadda, who lauded the decision to honour Dr. Mookerjee in Ambala. Nadda stated that key national initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, such as Make in India, the National Education Policy, and Self-Reliant India, directly advance the nationalist vision of Dr. Mookerjee. He pointed out that the decision to abrogate Article 370 successfully fulfilled Dr. Mookerjee’s lifelong pledge of the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring the country operates under a single constitution. Nadda added that the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act similarly realised the late leader’s vision of providing refuge to religiously persecuted minorities from neighbouring countries.
Reflecting on the historical connection between Ambala and Dr. Mookerjee, Chief Minister Saini recounted the leader’s historic journey in May 1953 when he arrived at the Ambala railway station before proceeding to Jammu and Kashmir without a permit to protest internal travel restrictions. His subsequent detention and ultimate demise near Srinagar constituted the supreme sacrifice for the unity and integrity of India. Saini reinforced that the state government is committed to working under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi to transform India into a fully developed nation by 2047, keeping national interest above all else.
During the gathering, Union Minister Nadda also commended the rapid pace of development in Haryana under the administration led by Chief Minister Saini. He highlighted several mega infrastructure projects driving growth in the region, including the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant in Yamunanagar, the Dwarka Expressway, the Rewari Bypass, and the massive Maruti Suzuki manufacturing plant in Kharkhoda. Nadda praised the state’s transparent recruitment system that has provided thousands of government jobs to youth solely on merit, alongside welfare schemes like the Lado Lakshmi Yojana and subsidised gas cylinders for the underprivileged. Furthermore, BJP State President Dr. Archana Gupta addressed the audience, describing Dr. Mookerjee as a pioneer of India’s industrial revolution who laid the early groundwork for key sectors like railways, aviation, defence equipment, and nuclear energy.
