Mumbai (Rajeev Sharma): Persistent monsoon showers have disrupted transportation across Maharashtra, with landslides and track damage affecting both road and rail connectivity. Authorities have temporarily shut key routes and advised travellers to remain cautious until weather conditions improve.
The Pune–Mangaon National Highway through the Paud–Mangaon corridor has been closed for all vehicles after continuous rainfall made the stretch unsafe. Officials said the restriction will remain in place until further orders, as teams continue to monitor the situation and assess road conditions.
Rail services were also impacted after heavy rain caused damage to the railway infrastructure between Karjat and Khopoli. The Central Railway announced that train operations on the section have been suspended after excessive water flow washed away the ballast supporting the tracks.
Railway officials stated that the damage was identified during routine monitoring by alert staff, allowing operations to be halted before any safety risk arose. Restoration teams have been deployed, and repair work is underway to bring the route back into service.
On the road network, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) confirmed that a landslide occurred near Tunnel 2 on the Pune–Mumbai Connecting Link Road. Traffic on the route was diverted from the early hours of the morning to ensure commuter safety.
Authorities said the affected area is being continuously inspected in coordination with the traffic police, while efforts to clear debris and restore normal movement are in progress. Commuters have been requested to avoid the route unless travel is absolutely necessary and to follow official traffic advisories.
With the monsoon remaining active across large parts of the state, officials have urged residents to stay updated on weather alerts and exercise caution while travelling, particularly through hilly and landslide-prone regions.
