Udhampur (Rajeev Sharma): The proposed airport at Udhampur has moved a step closer to execution after the government initiated the tendering process for the construction of its terminal building. The development was announced by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, who shared the latest progress through a post on X.
According to the minister, the tender has officially been floated, marking the beginning of the contractor selection process. He informed that the technical bids will be opened on July 10, while the financial bids are expected to be considered on July 22, subject to the completion of the evaluation process.
Dr. Singh expressed confidence that the contract for the terminal building could be finalised during the second week of August, allowing construction work to begin thereafter.
The terminal building forms an important part of the larger Udhampur airport project, which is expected to improve regional connectivity and strengthen transport infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. Once operational, the facility is likely to provide easier access for passengers, encourage tourism, and support economic activity in the region.
The announcement has been welcomed by residents and business groups, who believe improved air connectivity will open new opportunities for trade, investment, and travel.
Officials involved in the project are expected to complete the tender evaluation within the scheduled timeline so that the construction phase can begin without unnecessary delays. The airport project is regarded as one of the key infrastructure initiatives aimed at enhancing connectivity in the Union Territory.
