Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh) — Haryana Governor Prof. Asim Kumar Ghosh called upon the Kurukshetra University administration to further strengthen its engagement with the university’s alumni network. He emphasized the need to motivate alumni to support meritorious students from economically weaker sections, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder any student’s pursuit of higher education.
The Governor made these remarks while addressing a gathering after virtually laying the foundation stone for a new cafeteria in the Rose Garden of Kurukshetra University from Lok Bhavan. Lady Governor Smt. Mitra Ghosh was also present on the occasion.
Emphasizing the transformative power of education, Prof. Asim Kumar Ghosh urged the university to identify bright students from underprivileged families, particularly those who are first-generation higher education learners. He suggested that willing alumni should be encouraged to sponsor the education of such students, enabling them to realize their aspirations and contribute meaningfully to societal development.
Highlighting the vast potential of Kurukshetra University’s global alumni community, the Governor noted that their contributions in areas such as mentorship, scholarships, internships, research collaboration, and infrastructure development could play a transformative role in shaping the future of the institution.
Prof. Ghosh praised the generous contribution of distinguished alumni Mr. Hemant Gupta and Mrs. Nalini Gupta, who donated $500,000 USD for the construction of the cafeteria. Describing it as an outstanding example of alumni commitment and generosity toward their alma mater, the Governor stated that this gesture would inspire other alumni to contribute to the growth of the institution.
The Governor further highlighted that Kurukshetra University has emerged as a leading center for women’s higher education, boasting a high enrollment of female students on campus. In this context, he suggested that the operations of the proposed cafeteria be managed entirely by an all-women team. This initiative, he noted, would not only foster female leadership and entrepreneurship but also serve as an effective and practical model for women’s empowerment.
Earlier in the program, the Governor virtually unveiled the foundation plaque of the cafeteria, released the project brochure, and planted a sapling alongside Lady Governor Smt. Mitra Ghosh. Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Somnath Sachdeva also addressed the gathering.
The event was attended by University Registrar Dr. Virendra Pal, Director of the KU Alumni Association Dr. Anil Mittal, Director of Youth and Cultural Affairs Dr. Vivek Chawla, along with other university officials and staff. Members of the university’s academic community also joined the program virtually from the campus.
