Jammu (Rajeev Sharma): Ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, authorities have significantly upgraded security arrangements in Jammu by commissioning an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), which will serve as the central coordination hub for surveillance and emergency response throughout the pilgrimage.
The newly operational facility will oversee security across the city by integrating live feeds from nearly 600 CCTV cameras installed at sensitive locations, major intersections, transit camps, and key routes used by pilgrims heading towards the holy cave shrine.
Officials said the command centre enables seamless coordination between the Jammu and Kashmir Police, security forces and other government agencies by providing real-time monitoring from a single platform. The objective is to ensure quicker decision-making and immediate response to any security-related incident.
The surveillance network has been designed to keep constant watch on areas witnessing heavy pilgrim movement, including lodging centres, registration points, highways and public spaces. Personnel deployed at the ICCC will monitor camera feeds around the clock throughout the duration of the yatra.
Authorities believe the technology-driven system will not only strengthen security but also improve traffic regulation, crowd management and disaster response capabilities. Any suspicious activity detected through the surveillance network can be communicated instantly to field units for prompt action.
Security agencies have described the initiative as a major step towards creating a safer environment for the thousands of devotees expected to participate in this year’s pilgrimage. The integrated monitoring system will work alongside extensive ground deployment of police and paramilitary personnel.
With preparations entering the final phase, officials have reiterated that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the Amarnath Yatra is conducted peacefully and without disruption, with modern surveillance technology playing a key role in safeguarding pilgrims.
