The case first came to light on June 18 when 26-year-old Ketan Agarwal died after falling into a gorge during a trek. At the time, the incident was treated as a tragic accident, and family members were informed that he had lost his footing while exploring the fort.
However, investigators soon began questioning whether the fall was accidental. A review of surveillance footage collected from the area reportedly revealed the presence of a third individual who appeared to be closely monitoring the couple throughout their visit.
Police sources said the unidentified man drew attention because he had taken unusual steps to conceal his identity. Despite the hot weather, he was wearing clothing that obscured much of his face and appeared to be avoiding direct contact with cameras. Investigators believed the behaviour was inconsistent with that of an ordinary tourist and decided to examine the footage in greater detail.

During these interactions, they reportedly discovered that the relationship between Agarwal and his fiancée was not as smooth as it appeared publicly. According to investigators, the woman had repeatedly persuaded Agarwal to accompany her on visits to the same trekking destination in the weeks leading up to his death. Investigators allegedly found extensive contact between the woman and a young man identified as her romantic partner. The frequency and duration of their conversations reportedly suggested a close relationship that had continued despite her engagement.
Authorities then linked the man to the suspicious figure captured in surveillance footage. After identifying him, police launched a coordinated operation to trace his movements and gather additional evidence.
