Confusion Grows as Telegram Remains Unavailable for Many Users Across India

New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): Telegram users across India continued to report access problems on June 23, with many saying the messaging platform remained largely unusable despite expectations that temporary restrictions linked to the NEET-UG re-examination process would have ended.

From the early hours of Monday, social media platforms witnessed a surge of posts from users questioning why Telegram services had not been fully restored. Several individuals claimed they were unable to exchange messages, while others reported difficulties accessing the platform’s website and downloading the application through official channels.

The ongoing disruption has led to widespread uncertainty, particularly among students, professionals and businesses that rely on Telegram for communication and information sharing.

Many users expressed surprise that the service remained inaccessible even after the previously anticipated timeline for restoration had passed. Some suggested the delay could be related to technical implementation issues, while others speculated whether authorities had quietly extended the restrictions.

The situation has been further complicated by Telegram’s continued absence from major app marketplaces. Users attempting to install or update the application reported that it was still unavailable, adding to concerns about when normal operations would resume.

The restrictions were originally introduced as a precautionary measure amid concerns that examination-related content associated with the NEET-UG re-test could be circulated online. At the time, officials indicated that the action was temporary, prompting expectations of a quick return once the examination process concluded.

However, no formal clarification has yet been issued regarding the platform’s current status. The lack of an official update has left users dependent on online discussions and speculation for information.

Technology experts note that restoring access to a platform after restrictions are lifted can involve coordination among multiple stakeholders, including internet service providers, application stores and platform operators. As a result, services may not become available simultaneously across all regions and networks.

For millions of Telegram users, the continued uncertainty has become the primary concern. Until authorities or the platform itself provide a clear explanation, questions about whether the service is facing a delayed restoration, technical hurdles or an extended restriction are likely to persist.

With users still reporting difficulties across various parts of the country, attention remains focused on when Telegram will resume normal operations and whether an official statement will be issued to address the growing confusion.
