Power Supply Restoration Intensifies in Storm-Hit Haryana with 1,552 Employees Working Around the Clock, Says Energy Minister Anil Vij

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Energy Minister Anil Vij directed departmental officials to expedite the restoration of the state’s power infrastructure, which was severely impacted by recent fierce storms and high-velocity winds. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to minimizing consumer inconvenience, Vij announced that a comprehensive state-wide campaign has been launched on a war footing to return power distribution to normalcy in the shortest possible timeframe.

The Energy Minister revealed that the severe weather conditions resulted in the damaging or uprooting of 13,277 electricity poles across various districts. The structural damage includes 2,791 poles under the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and 10,486 poles under the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN). To address this massive disruption, a dedicated workforce of 1,552 personnel, comprising 620 technical teams from UHBVN and 932 from DHBVN, has been deployed to execute round-the-clock repair operations on damaged lines, sub-stations, and transformers.

According to departmental data, the storm disrupted power supply across 233 villages, affecting 32 villages under UHBVN jurisdiction and 201 villages under DHBVN. Additionally, a total of 842 electricity feeders sustained damage, including 458 under UHBVN and 384 under DHBVN. Vij noted that due to the prompt action and diligence of the field staff, electricity supply has already been successfully restored in a majority of the affected zones, with final restoration works progressing rapidly in the remaining pockets.

Concluding his brief, the Energy Minister reiterated that the state government is fully committed to providing uninterrupted power utilities to its citizens. He instructed senior administrative officials to continuously monitor the ongoing field operations and allocate additional resources wherever necessary to prevent any procedural delays. Vij also appealed to residents to maintain patience, practice caution by staying away from snapped lines or broken poles, and immediately report localized electrical hazards to the nearest grievance redressal centers.
