Haryana CM Saini Incorporates History of Sikh Gurus into Grade 8 Curriculum

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): The Chief Minister of Haryana, Nayab Singh Saini, has fulfilled a major commitment made to the Sikh community and residents of the state by officially incorporating the history of the Sikh Gurus and Baba Banda Singh Bahadur into the Grade 8 school curriculum. This educational reform ensures that school children across the state will study the life lessons, values, and immense sacrifices of these historical figures.

The decision stems from an announcement made by the Chief Minister during the 350th martyrdom anniversary functions of Guru Tegh Bahadur held in Haryana. At that time, the government promised to make Sikh history an integral part of school education to introduce future generations to the ideals and sacrifices of the Gurus. The administration has now fully implemented this policy directive.

Chief Minister Saini emphasized that from Guru Nanak Dev to Guru Gobind Singh, all Sikh Gurus championed the messages of humanity, equality, service, compassion, brotherhood, and social justice. He noted that their teachings inspired society to rise above distinctions of caste, creed, and class, remaining deeply relevant today for fostering social harmony, moral values, and national unity.

The Chief Minister also noted that the life of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, who fought against injustice, tyranny, and exploitation under the guidance of Guru Gobind Singh, serves as a powerful example of courage, leadership, and patriotism for today’s youth. He added that the Haryana government views education not merely as a tool for gaining knowledge but as a medium for character building and connecting students with their rich cultural and historical heritage.

Expressing gratitude for the initiative, the Chief Minister’s Officer on Special Duty, Dr. Prabhleen Singh, thanked Saini for addressing a long-standing and deeply emotional demand of the Sikh community. He remarked that the decision underscores the state government’s inclusive approach and respect for the sentiments of all sections of society.
