Gurpreet Singh :- Security arrangements have been significantly intensified across Amritsar ahead of the June 6 anniversary of Operation Bluestar, with Punjab Police preparing a comprehensive security plan to maintain law and order in the city.
A high-level review meeting chaired by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav was held on Saturday to assess preparedness and coordinate security measures. Senior police officials, including Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and DIG Sandeep Goel, attended the meeting and reviewed arrangements for the upcoming observance.
Sources said the police have been directed to closely monitor individuals and groups that have previously been associated with attempts to disturb public peace during the anniversary period. Authorities have been instructed to take immediate preventive action against anyone found trying to create unrest.
As part of the security plan, additional police personnel are expected to arrive in the city by June 2. Security has been strengthened around the Golden Temple, while plainclothes officers will also be deployed at key locations for surveillance and intelligence gathering.
Enhanced checking and monitoring have been introduced at major public places, including Durgiana Temple, the railway station, bus terminals and Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport. Visitors, residents and pilgrims are being urged to cooperate with security protocols.
More than 2,000 additional personnel from neighbouring districts, including Amritsar Rural, Batala, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Tarn Taran, are likely to be deployed to reinforce the security network. Police officials have also cancelled the leave of several personnel and directed all Station House Officers (SHOs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to remain on maximum alert during the period.
Officials said elaborate arrangements are being put in place to ensure the anniversary passes peacefully and without any disruption to public order.
