Calgary ( Rajeev Sharma): A 19-year-old driver is facing serious charges after allegedly driving at extremely dangerous speeds on Calgary’s Stoney Trail in an attempt to avoid police.
According to police, the vehicle was first observed travelling at approximately 154 km/h before the driver accelerated to nearly 192 km/h on the roadway. Officers said the excessive speed created a major risk to public safety and endangered other motorists using the highway.
Police eventually stopped the vehicle and arrested the young driver. The vehicle was seized, and multiple charges related to dangerous driving and excessive speeding are expected. Investigators say incidents involving extreme speeding continue to be a growing concern on Calgary roads, particularly on Stoney Trail, where police have increased enforcement efforts in recent months. Calgary police have repeatedly warned that speeds well above posted limits can lead to fatal collisions and serious injuries.
Officials are reminding drivers that anyone caught travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit can face mandatory court appearances, possible licence suspensions, heavy fines, and vehicle seizures under Alberta traffic laws. Police continue to urge motorists to drive responsibly and avoid reckless behaviour that puts lives at risk on Calgary roadways.
