High-Stakes Evacuation: Over 230 Passengers Safe After Smoke Detected on IndiGo Flight at Bengaluru Airport

Bengaluru (Gurpreet Singh): More than 230 passengers and crew members were safely evacuated from an IndiGo aircraft at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on Tuesday evening after smoke was detected inside the cabin. The incident triggered an immediate emergency response on the tarmac, though officials confirmed that no injuries were reported during the sudden evacuation process.

The incident occurred while IndiGo flight 6E 6017, a scheduled service from Bengaluru to Chennai, was taxiing out toward the runway in preparation for departure. According to an official statement released by the airline, crew members noticed smoke inside the cabin of the Airbus A321 aircraft. In the interest of passenger safety, the pilots halted the aircraft immediately, and the crew initiated an urgent evacuation protocol on the taxiway.

All passengers and flight crew were safely moved from the aircraft and transported back to the airport terminal. IndiGo teams attended to the travelers inside the terminal to ensure their well-being and manage alternative travel arrangements. The airline later confirmed that a replacement aircraft had been deployed to operate the delayed flight to Chennai, allowing the affected passengers to continue their journey.

Aviation authorities were immediately informed of the ground emergency. Engineering and safety teams have launched a thorough investigation to determine the exact technical cause of the smoke inside the cabin.
