Rajeev Sharma :- A minor road rage incident in Chandigarh took a dramatic turn after a man allegedly set his own motorcycle on fire following an argument with a car driver on the dividing road between Sector 37 and Sector 42.
According to preliminary information, the biker reportedly rammed his motorcycle into a car from behind, which led to a heated exchange between the two individuals. In a fit of rage, the man allegedly opened the petrol tank of his bike and set it ablaze in the middle of the road.
Eyewitnesses said the motorcycle was engulfed in flames within moments, creating panic among commuters and passersby. Locals immediately alerted the police control room and the fire brigade. However, by the time firefighters reached the spot, the motorcycle had already been reduced to ashes.
Police officials detained the accused from the scene soon after the incident. Statements of the car driver were also recorded, though he reportedly declined to file a formal complaint and told authorities that he would bear the repair expenses for his damaged vehicle himself.
During investigation, the police conducted a medical examination of the accused, which allegedly confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
A case has been registered by the Chandigarh Police at Sector-39 police station, and further investigation into the matter is underway. The incident also disrupted traffic movement in the area for some time due to the fire on the busy stretch.
