New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): The dynamic investigation into the high-profile death of 33-year-old former actor and model Twisha Sharma advanced significantly following a meticulous, four-hour secondary autopsy conducted at AIIMS Bhopal by a specialized forensic delegation from AIIMS Delhi. The second post-mortem examination was legally mandated by the Madhya Pradesh High Court after the victim’s parents raised urgent concerns regarding significant procedural lapses in the initial local probe, specifically pointing to unexamined physical trauma. Led by Dr. Sudhir Gupta, Chief of Forensic Medicine at AIIMS Delhi, the advanced medical team utilized a multidisciplinary forensic, pathological, and radiological approach to independently investigate the injuries and preserve crucial evidence, noting that final histopathology and viscera reports will require additional laboratory processing.
The administrative and legal mechanisms surrounding the tragedy have escalated into a national controversy due to the prominent background of the accused family. Twisha, a former Miss Pune, was discovered dead on May 12 at her residence in the Katara Hills locality of Bhopal. While her husband, an active lawyer, and her mother-in-law, a retired district judge, maintained that the incident was a suicide, the victim’s family filed severe charges of systematic dowry harassment and abetment. Following intense public outcry and sustained protests, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav formally consented to transition the entire probe over to the Central Bureau of Investigation to ensure complete transparency.
The legal proceedings are poised to transition directly to the highest judicial tier on Monday, as a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court of India commences formal hearings after taking suo motu cognizance of the case. Following the conclusion of the secondary medical examination on Sunday evening, the family conducted Twisha’s final rites at the Bhadbhada Vishram Ghat, concluding an agonizing 12-day wait to bid her a final farewell.
