Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced a series of major cultural and educational initiatives for the Kashyap community during a state-level event organized at his official residence, Sant Kabir Kutir, in Chandigarh on Sunday. Speaking on the auspicious occasion of Maharishi Kashyap Jayanti, the Chief Minister highly praised the historical legacy of the community, characterizing its members as courageous, hardworking, and self-respecting. He emphasized that the provincial administration is thoroughly committed to honoring the state’s cultural icons and preserving ancestral heritage for future generations.
Among the major announcements, Chief Minister Saini declared that the state government will allocate a suitable plot of land in Kaithal for the construction of a community dharamshala as soon as a formal proposal is submitted by the community representatives. Furthermore, a prominent public intersection in Indri will be renamed after Maharishi Kashyap, where a magnificent life-sized statue of the revered sage will be installed. To encourage academic research into the historical contributions of the sage, the Chief Minister also committed to providing dedicated financial grants to establish a specialized Maharishi Kashyap Academic Chair at Kurukshetra University.
Reflecting on the historical milestones of the community, Saini noted that Maharishi Kashyap authored foundational texts like the Kashyap Samhita to provide structural guidance to society. He highlighted that the lineage has produced iconic figures across Indian history, including King Nishad, who provided shelter to Lord Rama, and Bhai Himmat Singh, who was one of the historic Panj Pyaras chosen by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Transitioning to modern social issues, the Chief Minister actively counselled community elders to protect the youth from substance abuse and prioritize higher education to ensure a constructive role in regional development.
During the event, Indri MLA Ramkumar Kashyap expressed gratitude to both the central and state administrations for introducing robust welfare schemes for the Other Backward Classes, noting that the national commission has received crucial constitutional status under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The legislator also mentioned that the community intentionally scaled down its regional celebrations into a symbolic gathering to conserve essential fuel resources, keeping in line with the national appeal to curb diesel and petrol consumption amidst the ongoing global energy fluctuations. The high-profile celebration concluded with community leaders reaffirming their commitment to overcoming regional divisions and actively collaborating to achieve the Vision 2047 goal of a developed nation.
