SGPC Pays Tribute to Nihang Singhs Martyred in Paonta Sahib Massacre

Gurpreet Singh :- The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee on Saturday organised a special Gurmat Samagam at Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall within the Golden Temple complex to commemorate the 11 Nihang Singhs who were martyred during the 1964 Paonta Sahib massacre. The martyrs had laid down their lives while fighting to free Gurdwara Paonta Sahib, associated with the legacy of Guru Gobind Singh, from the control of corrupt mahants.

The religious programme began with the bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, followed by devotional kirtan performed by Hazoori Ragi jathas. A large number of devotees attended the gathering and paid homage to the martyrs.

Among those present were SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, Misl Shaheedan Tarna Dal chief Baba Nihal Singh, SGPC officials, Nihang Singh groups and members of the Sikh sangat.

Speakers at the event described the sacrifice of the Nihang Singhs as a significant chapter in Sikh history, stating that their martyrdom for the protection of Sikh institutions and traditions would continue to inspire future generations.
