Sudden Rise in Budhi Gandaki River Sweeps Away Houses in Nepal’s Gorkha, Evacuation Alert Issued

Nepal (Rajeev Sharma): Authorities in Nepal have issued evacuation warnings for settlements along the Budhi Gandaki River in Gorkha district after a sudden surge in water levels swept away several houses early Sunday morning.

Preliminary reports indicate that between five and seven houses located in the riverbed area of Jagat were washed away by the rising water. There are also fears that additional homes may have been carried downstream as the river continued to flow at elevated levels.

Officials have urged residents living near the river to remain alert and move to safer locations amid concerns that further flooding could threaten nearby settlements.

The sudden rise in the river has raised concerns over the safety of communities situated along its banks, particularly those living in low-lying areas vulnerable to fast-moving water.

The full extent of the damage and the number of people affected were not immediately clear. Authorities are expected to assess the situation as more information becomes available.

Residents in vulnerable areas have been warned to take the evacuation advisory seriously and avoid approaching the river while water levels remain a concern.
