Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): In a proactive effort to champion environmental sustainability and energy conservation, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini cycled to Chandigarh’s iconic Sukhna Lake on Tuesday morning. During his visit, the Chief Minister engaged with local residents arriving for their morning walks, urging them to adopt fuel-saving habits and healthy lifestyles to realize the vision of a healthier India and a healthier Haryana.
The initiative aligns with recent national appeals made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who urged citizens to actively participate in energy conservation amidst evolving global economic and geopolitical conditions in the Middle East. Chief Minister Saini highlighted the importance of reducing unnecessary fuel consumption, choosing fuel-efficient travel methods, and shifting toward electric vehicles to lower reliance on conventional energy reserves.
To institutionalize these energy-saving guidelines at the state level, the Haryana government has introduced a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure. The newly implemented policy prioritizes institutional energy efficiency by encouraging departments to utilize virtual meetings, adopt work-from-home arrangements where feasible, and restructure official operations to minimize logistical carbon footprints. The state administration plans to launch localized awareness campaigns to ensure widespread public participation in this green transition.
Emphasizing that the dream of a developed India relies heavily on collective civic responsibility, Chief Minister Saini called upon political opposition leaders to rise above partisan lines and support these core sustainable goals. He drew a parallel to the country’s unified response during the pandemic, asserting that similar public solidarity toward resource conservation and environmental protection will successfully insulate the nation from global energy fluctuations and resource challenges.
