Gurpreet Singh :- A 22-year-old BCA student was found dead after allegedly dying by suicide in a rented accommodation near the New Bus Stand area of Kotkapura, police said on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Nipunn, son of Rajesh Kumar and a resident of Adarsh Nagar in Fazilka. He was pursuing first-year BCA studies at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Government College.
According to police officials, the student had been living in a rented room near the bus stand for the past four months for educational purposes. Concern arose after he failed to respond to repeated phone calls from family members on Sunday morning.
The family subsequently contacted the landlord, who found the room locked from inside. After receiving no response for a considerable time, the matter was reported to the police.
A police team from City Police Station reached the spot and opened the room in the presence of officials. The student was found hanging inside the room.
The body was taken into custody and sent to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Landlord Jatinder Singh stated that the student was quiet by nature and appeared focused on his studies. Sources said he was also scheduled to appear in an examination on the same day, though police have not officially linked the incident to academic pressure or any other specific reason.
ASI Daljit Singh of City Police Station said further legal proceedings would be initiated based on the statements of the family members. Police said the matter was under investigation from all possible angles.
