Another CNG Price Revision Hits Delhi-NCR, Commuters Brace for Higher Travel Costs

News Alert

Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): Residents of Delhi and nearby cities are facing another rise in compressed natural gas prices, with fresh revised rates coming into effect just two days after the previous hike.

The latest increase has pushed CNG prices in Delhi to ₹80.09 per kilogram, while rates in Noida and Ghaziabad have climbed to ₹88.70. In Gurugram, consumers will now pay ₹85.12 per kg.

Cities including Meerut, Shamli and Muzaffarnagar are now charging ₹88.58 per kg, while Kanpur has crossed ₹91. Other affected locations include Ajmer, Banda and Hapur, where revised rates have also been implemented.

Gas distributor Indraprastha Gas Limited said the decision was taken to offset growing operational pressure caused by rising international gas costs and the continued strengthening of the US dollar against the rupee.

The company stated that although prices have increased, CNG still remains one of the most economical fuel options compared to petrol and diesel.

This marks the second hike in quick succession after an earlier ₹2-per-kg increase announced this week. Similar pricing adjustments have also been recorded in Mumbai and other urban centres as energy costs continue to rise nationwide.

The repeated revisions are being linked to ongoing instability in global energy supply routes, especially after disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz affected fuel movement across international markets.

Energy analysts say the closure of this critical shipping corridor has sharply increased import costs, forcing suppliers to revise domestic retail prices.

The impact is expected to be felt across Delhi-NCR’s transport system, where a large number of auto-rickshaws, taxis and public vehicles rely heavily on CNG.

Transport unions are already reviewing the situation, with many operators indicating that continued price pressure could lead to fare revision demands.

Experts also caution that higher transport fuel costs may gradually affect delivery charges and retail prices, adding fresh pressure to household expenses.

The development comes at a time when India has also seen fuel price adjustments for petrol and diesel after a long gap, reflecting broader stress across the energy sector.

Market observers say future pricing will depend largely on international developments and how quickly fuel supply channels return to normal.
