Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): The Haryana government has unveiled a significant initiative aimed at integrating space science, emerging technologies, and innovation-driven education into the academic lives of the state’s youth. In a directive issued by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, all administrative secretaries have been instructed to ensure the registration of students and teachers from universities, colleges, and other educational institutions for the “India Space Lab – Summer Internship and Technical Training Program 2026.” This New Delhi-based program is designed to provide hands-on technical training in cutting-edge fields, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical application in the rapidly evolving space sector.
According to the official communication, the state government has mandated a wide-scale promotional campaign across departmental websites and social media platforms to ensure that as many young people as possible can benefit from this opportunity. The curriculum for the summer internship covers a broad spectrum of modern scientific disciplines, including advanced drone technology, Cansat and Cubesat student satellite systems, rocketry training, remote sensing, GIS, and disaster management. This diverse range of topics is intended to equip participants with the skills necessary to compete in the global technological landscape and contribute to national research and development efforts.
The training will be conducted entirely through an online medium, featuring live sessions led by industry experts and experienced scientists. Participants will gain specialized knowledge regarding satellite systems, the practical use of modern scientific instruments, and various ongoing space projects. Upon the successful completion of the program, students and researchers will receive official certificates. This initiative is particularly focused on undergraduate and postgraduate students, aiming to connect them directly with global scientific innovations and future-ready technologies that extend beyond the limitations of standard classroom instruction.
The summer internship program is structured in two distinct phases, with the second batch currently open for applications until June 10. Classes for this session are scheduled to take place from June 17 to July 4. Out of a total of 2,315 available seats, 1,045 have been specifically reserved for this second batch. While a registration fee of ₹950 has been set for participants, no additional fees for training or the internship will be charged. However, the government has clarified that no stipend will be provided to the participants during the course of the program.
India Space Lab has noted that this initiative aligns with the broader space sector reforms spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the “Viksit Bharat 2047” campaign. Following the success of events like India Space Week and National Space Day, there has been a visible surge in interest regarding space exploration among Indian youth. By providing specialized training in fields like drone technology and satellite systems, the Haryana government hopes to create a pipeline of skilled professionals ready for careers in research, startups, and high-tech industries, ultimately strengthening the state’s competitive edge on both a national and international level.
