Gurpreet Singh :- A late-night road accident on Amloh Road in Khanna claimed the life of a youth and left three others seriously injured after a speeding canter allegedly went out of control and rammed multiple vehicles on the busy stretch.
According to eyewitnesses, traffic movement was heavy at the time of the incident when the canter driver reportedly lost control over the vehicle. The truck collided with several vehicles, including two motorcycles carrying four youths. The impact triggered panic in the area as people rushed to save the victims.
One of the injured youths succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to the Civil Hospital, Khanna, while the remaining three sustained serious injuries. Two of them were later referred to a higher medical centre due to their critical condition.
Local residents and members of social organisations assisted in shifting the injured to hospital through ambulances and private vehicles. Witnesses said the mishap could have resulted in greater loss of life had the road been more crowded at that hour.
The accident led to a temporary traffic disruption on Amloh Road before police teams reached the spot and restored normal movement by removing the damaged vehicles.
Police have taken the canter driver into custody and initiated an investigation. City Police Station-2 official Ajitej Kaushal said preliminary findings suggest the vehicle went out of control before crashing into the motorcycles and other vehicles. Further legal action is being taken after a detailed probe.
