Punjab Sees Fresh Security Challenge as Explosions Target Central Installations

Punjab Blast News

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): A series of explosions reported across Punjab over the past several days has prompted heightened concern among security agencies, with investigators indicating that extremist groups may be shifting their focus from local police targets to central government-linked establishments. In the latest incidents, low-intensity blasts were reported near the Border Security Force headquarters in Jalandhar and close to a military area in Amritsar. Earlier, an explosion had also damaged a section of railway infrastructure linked to a freight corridor, raising concerns over possible attempts to disrupt strategic assets.

Authorities stated that while no major casualties were reported in the recent incidents, the pattern of attacks marks a noticeable change in targeting. Security agencies are now examining possible links between the cases and cross-border networks.

Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav has reportedly pointed towards the involvement of Pakistan-based handlers operating through foreign-based associates. Officials believe that terror-linked modules are increasingly relying on criminal and narcotics networks to facilitate logistics, movement of explosives, and recruitment.

The developments come weeks after a grenade attack outside the state office of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Chandigarh. Investigators in that case had claimed that the conspiracy involved overseas operatives allegedly coordinating with local modules.

According to police data, Punjab has witnessed multiple grenade and IED-related incidents since late 2024, with several earlier attacks directed at police stations and security posts in border districts. Investigators say many of the explosives were allegedly smuggled into India using drones operating across the international border.

Security officials have also expressed concern over attempts to revive terror-related activity through coordinated propaganda and targeted violence. Intelligence agencies are now closely monitoring online platforms and suspected sleeper modules believed to be in contact with foreign-based operatives.

Despite the recent incidents, officials maintain that coordinated operations by Punjab Police and central agencies have led to several arrests and recoveries in recent months. Additional security measures have now been implemented around sensitive locations, transport infrastructure, and government establishments across the state.

Authorities have appealed to the public to remain alert and immediately report suspicious activity, while assuring that investigations into all recent blasts are progressing on priority basis.
