Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has prioritized the permanent resolution of grain storage issues by directing the construction of a large-scale silo between Shahbad and Ambala. During a high-level review meeting held at the Haryana Civil Secretariat on Wednesday, the Chief Minister emphasized that providing adequate warehouse and silo facilities is essential to prevent grain wastage and honour the hard work of the province’s farmers. He instructed officials to identify approximately 100 acres of land situated strategically between a railway line and a road to ensure cost-effective connectivity across the country. The designated departments have been given a one-month deadline to finalize the land acquisition and construction plans for this ambitious infrastructure project.
In addition to traditional grain storage, the Chief Minister highlighted the economic potential of exporting fruits and vegetables to the Middle East, where demand is currently high due to regional conflicts. He directed the Haryana Warehousing Corporation to draft a plan for a specialized storage facility near the Hisar Airport. This facility would serve as a hub for the safe storage of perishable goods, which could then be efficiently exported via air freight. By facilitating direct access to international markets, the government aims to ensure that local horticultural farmers receive significantly better prices for their produce, thereby boosting the rural economy.
The meeting also addressed critical infrastructure needs in the Palwal and Nuh regions. Public Health Department officials reported that 108 villages and the town of Punhana currently rely on tube-well-based drinking water. To stabilize the groundwater level and recharge the earth, the department plans to install seven Ranney wells and boosting stations at an estimated cost of 765 crore rupees. While acknowledging these efforts, the Chief Minister urged officials to transition toward canal-based water supply systems for these areas. He noted that as these regions evolve into new industrial hubs, the demand for water will increase significantly, necessitating a more sustainable and high-capacity supply network for the growing population.
Looking ahead to the upcoming monsoon season, the Chief Minister called for an extensive afforestation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative. He instructed officials to begin planting a significant number of trees across the province immediately to expand Haryana’s green cover. To ensure the survival and growth of the saplings, he mandated the use of tree guards and a regular watering schedule. High-ranking officials, including Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana and Chief Principal Secretary Rajesh Khullar, were present to coordinate the implementation of these various developmental and environmental directives aimed at long-term provincial growth.
