Jalandhar/Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): A state-wide alert has been issued across Punjab following two closely timed explosions near high-security zones in Jalandhar and Amritsar, prompting an intensive investigation by police and security agencies.
The first incident took place outside the Punjab Frontier headquarters of the Border Security Force in Jalandhar, where a parked scooter suddenly caught fire and exploded, causing alarm among locals. Though early reports pointed to a mechanical fault, sources now indicate that investigators are examining the possibility of an improvised explosive device being involved.
Police teams swiftly sealed off the area and began collecting evidence. Surveillance footage from nearby cameras is being analysed to trace the sequence of events leading up to the blast. The scooter owner, a young delivery worker identified as Gurpreet Singh, has been questioned. Officials said he has been cooperating and claimed the vehicle ignited without warning.
A few hours later, another explosion was reported near the Khassa Cantonment zone in Amritsar. The sound of the blast led to immediate mobilisation of local police, Army officials, and bomb disposal units. Although no casualties were reported, the incident has raised concerns due to its proximity to a military installation.
According to police, forensic teams have gathered material from the site, which has been sent for examination to determine the exact cause and nature of the explosion. Authorities are also trying to establish whether the two incidents are connected or coincidental.
Senior officers confirmed that multiple agencies, including intelligence units, are involved in the probe. Security has been tightened across vital locations, and additional vigilance measures have been put in place.
Officials have urged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity, while assuring that every effort is being made to uncover the facts behind the incidents and maintain public safety.
