Unsettled Weather Brings Relief from Heat Across Punjab; Storm Warning in Effect

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Weather conditions across Punjab and Chandigarh have taken a cooler turn, offering a break from the recent spell of high temperatures. Early morning winds and intermittent cloud cover have helped bring down mercury levels, which are now significantly below the seasonal average.

The Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for the day, cautioning residents about the possibility of thunderstorms, rain, and strong winds. Gusts are expected to reach speeds of 50–60 km/h in several areas, while hail activity may occur in select districts.

Cities such as Bathinda and Fazilka recorded comparatively higher temperatures, though still below extreme heat levels. In contrast, many districts including Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar witnessed milder conditions, with noticeable drops in daytime temperatures.

Officials attribute the weather change to a western disturbance influencing the northwestern region, coupled with local atmospheric circulation. These systems are contributing to increased cloud formation and unstable weather patterns.

Looking ahead, forecasters predict that this phase of fluctuating weather will continue over the next few days, with chances of scattered rainfall and thunderstorms persisting across the state. Residents have been advised to stay alert, particularly in areas vulnerable to strong winds and sudden weather shifts.
