Gurpreet Singh :- A young man was shot dead by unidentified assailants in broad daylight in Kapurthala on Friday, sending shockwaves across the area. The victim, identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, a resident of village Jairampur, was sitting in the driver’s seat of his car when the attackers opened fire, leaving him with no chance to escape.
According to reports, the incident took place near Avon Palace on the GT Road in the Dhilwan area. The assailants reportedly fired multiple shots from the front, shattering the car’s windshield. One of the bullets hit Gurpreet Singh directly, resulting in his death on the spot.
Police officials from Dhilwan police station reached the scene soon after receiving information. The body was taken into custody and shifted to the Civil Hospital mortuary in Kapurthala around 3:45 am. A case has been registered and further investigation is in progress.
Sources revealed that the deceased was allegedly associated with gangster Sukhpreet Singh alias Sukha Kahlwan and was reportedly the last remaining witness in a murder case linked to him. While several witnesses in the case had earlier turned hostile, Gurpreet Singh had not.
Meanwhile, a social media post claiming responsibility for the killing has surfaced online. However, police have stated that the authenticity of the post is yet to be verified and no conclusions will be drawn until proper investigation is completed.
Authorities are examining all possible angles, including past enmity and gang rivalry, as part of the ongoing probe.
