Militant Attack in Adamawa Leaves 29 Dead, ISIS Claims Involvement

News Alert

Nigeria (Rajeev Sharma): A deadly assault in northeastern Nigeria has left at least 29 people dead, with the extremist outfit Islamic State asserting responsibility for the violence.

The incident occurred in the Guyaku area of Gombi in Adamawa State, where gunmen reportedly stormed the community and opened fire on civilians. Local authorities confirmed the casualties and said emergency and security teams were immediately deployed to the site.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri visited the affected locality following the attack and strongly condemned the killings. He described the incident as a grave tragedy and assured residents that the government would take firm action against those responsible.

Security agencies have stepped up operations in and around the area, with additional personnel deployed to track down the attackers and prevent further violence. Officials said efforts are also underway to stabilise the region and support affected families.

The attack once again underscores the persistent threat posed by insurgent groups in parts of Nigeria, where communities continue to face sporadic but deadly assaults.

Authorities have appealed for calm while investigations continue and security forces intensify their presence in vulnerable areas.
