Pune (Gurpreet Singh): A minor derailment involving the Mumbai-Solapur Vande Bharat Express occurred on Monday evening as the train was approaching Pune railway station. According to railway officials, no passengers were injured in the incident, which took place around 7:30 p.m. at a critical track intersection known as a diamond crossing.
The premium AC train (No. 22225) was on its scheduled journey from Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Solapur when a single wheel of one coach slipped off the tracks. The derailment happened at a level junction where two tracks intersect. Following the incident, passengers in the affected coach were seen disembarking with their luggage and walking a short distance to the nearest platform.
Railway authorities have confirmed that the diamond crossing in question was already slated for an upgrade as part of the ongoing yard remodelling work at Pune station. Maintenance teams were immediately deployed to replace the crossing on a priority basis to restore normal traffic. While the incident caused a temporary disruption to local rail movements, the safety systems in place prevented any further damage or injury to those on board.
