Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): The investigation into the killing of a 22-year-old woman in New Delhi has uncovered disturbing details, with police confirming that the main suspect was allegedly involved in another serious offence in Alwar shortly before the incident.
The victim, the daughter of a senior IRS officer, was found unresponsive inside her home in the Kailash Hills area on Wednesday. She was alone at the time, as her parents had stepped out. Despite being rushed to a hospital, doctors declared her dead. Initial assessments suggest she was attacked and later strangled.
Police have arrested Rahul Meena, a former domestic worker at the residence, who was reportedly aware of the house layout and the family’s routine. Investigators believe he used a spare key kept outside for household staff to enter the premises, as no signs of forced entry were detected.
CCTV footage shows the accused entering the locality early in the morning and leaving within a short span, which is believed to be the timeframe of the crime. Officials said he changed clothes after the incident and fled with cash reportedly amounting to over ₹2 lakh.
Further inquiry revealed that the accused had travelled from Alwar to Delhi overnight. In Rajasthan, a woman had filed a complaint accusing him of sexual assault just hours before the murder. Police suspect that after the alleged offence there, he attempted to evade arrest by disposing of his mobile phone and arranging private transport to reach Delhi.
A coordinated search operation led to his arrest from a hotel in Dwarka later the same day. During questioning, police also learned that he had financial troubles and frequently borrowed money, allegedly to support online gaming habits. He had been removed from his job at the victim’s house some time ago following complaints.
Authorities have registered multiple charges against the accused, including murder, sexual assault, and robbery. Police teams are working closely with counterparts in Rajasthan to examine the earlier complaint and piece together the sequence of events leading up to the crime.
The case has raised serious concerns over safety and background verification of domestic workers, while the investigation continues to uncover further details.
