Daikin to invest ₹1,000 crore in Haryana to set up India’s first R&D centre

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, that Daikin Air Conditioning will invest approximately ₹1,000 crore to establish a state-of-the-art Research and Development (R&D) centre in Manesar. This facility is set to be the largest and first of its kind in the country, significantly boosting technical innovation and strengthening Haryana’s position as a global industrial hub. The project is expected to generate direct employment for more than 500 local youths and reflects the growing confidence of Japanese firms in the state’s investor-friendly environment.

The investment is a direct result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during the Chief Minister’s visit to Japan in October 2025. During a meeting with a Japanese delegation at his residence, Sant Kabir Kutir, Saini emphasized that the success of his international outreach is now materializing into large-scale industrial growth. He attributed this influx of foreign capital to the state’s strategic focus on the “Ease of Doing Business” and deliberate efforts to reduce the “Cost of Doing Business.” The government has implemented a robust single-window system to ensure that all necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs) are provided in a simplified and time-bound manner.

Senior officials, including Chief Principal Secretary Rajesh Khullar and Daikin MD Kanwaljeet Jawa, were present during the announcement. The Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to fostering long-term economic ties with Japan, noting that the Manesar R&D centre will serve as a cornerstone for future technological collaborations. By providing a stable policy framework and a skilled workforce, Haryana continues to position itself as a preferred destination for global manufacturing giants seeking to expand their footprint in South Asia.
