Bannu(Rajeev Sharma): A deadly attack in Pakistan’s northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa claimed the lives of two security personnel on Sunday, officials said, underscoring ongoing security challenges in the region.

The incident occurred in the Kurram Garhi locality of Bannu district, an area situated near the North Waziristan border. According to police sources, unidentified gunmen targeted members of the Federal Constabulary, opening fire without warning.

Security personnel present at the scene responded to the assault, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire. However, the attackers managed to escape amid the chaos, leaving behind two fallen officers.

Soon after the attack, additional security units were deployed, and the entire area was placed under strict surveillance. Authorities launched a combing operation across nearby localities in an effort to trace the assailants.

Police officials confirmed that checkpoints have been reinforced and movement is being closely monitored to prevent further incidents. The region has remained sensitive due to sporadic militant activities, prompting heightened vigilance by security agencies.

An investigation into the attack is currently underway, with officials working to identify those involved and uncover the circumstances surrounding the assault.
