Punjab Police Bust Drug Smuggling Racket Using Tractor-Trolleys, Eight Arrested

Gurpreet Singh :- In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Khanna Police have dismantled a unique drug smuggling network that was operating under the guise of agricultural activity. Eight individuals, including four farmers, have been arrested in connection with the case.

According to the police, the accused used to procure opium and poppy husk from Madhya Pradesh during the wheat harvesting season and transport the contraband to पंजाब using tractor-trolleys, concealing it alongside farming equipment to avoid suspicion.

The breakthrough came during a routine checking operation near Galwadi, where a suspicious tractor-trolley was intercepted. When signaled to stop, the driver attempted to flee, but the police swiftly blocked the route and apprehended the occupants.

Upon searching the vehicle, officials recovered 44 kilograms of poppy husk and 4 kilograms of opium. Four individuals present at the spot were immediately taken into custody. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of four more accomplices, including suppliers linked to the racket.

Police revealed that the accused regularly traveled to Madhya Pradesh for agricultural work and used this cover to smuggle drugs into Punjab. The contraband was allegedly distributed in areas including Samrala and Machhiwara Sahib.

Authorities also seized two tractors, two trolleys, a reaper, and an SUV believed to have been used in the operation. Officials stated that further interrogation is ongoing and more revelations are expected.

Khanna Police reiterated their commitment to intensifying the anti-drug campaign and warned that strict action will continue against those involved in narcotics trade.
