Gurpreet Singh :- The Punjab government has rolled back its decision to charge ₹80 for downloading First Information Reports (FIRs) from the Sanjh portal, following widespread public criticism across the state. The move, which was introduced recently, had sparked strong resentment among citizens who viewed the fee as an unnecessary burden on accessing essential legal documents.
In response to the backlash, the government has officially withdrawn the earlier notification and issued a fresh order отменing the fee. With this decision, users will once again be able to download FIR copies from the portal free of cost.
The reversal is being seen as a relief for the public and a step towards ensuring easier and more accessible digital services. Officials indicated that the decision was taken to maintain transparency and public convenience in accessing important records.
