Court-Supervised Poll: Independent Rajwinder Kaur Wins Dera Baba Nanak Chairperson Post

Gurpreet Singh :- In a closely watched development, the election for the Chairperson of the Dera Baba Nanak Block Samiti was conducted under the strict supervision of the High Court at the SDM office. The court had directed that the entire process be carried out through ballot paper voting and under continuous camera surveillance to ensure transparency and fairness.

Independent candidate Rajwinder Kaur from Bhagwanpur emerged victorious in the election. Out of a total of 19 votes, she secured 11 votes, while the Aam Aadmi Party candidate received 6 votes, giving her a clear margin of five votes.

The High Court’s intervention came after a group of Block Samiti members raised concerns over possible irregularities in the election process and approached the court seeking a fair and transparent poll. Taking the matter seriously, the court ordered that the election be conducted under strict monitoring.

The election was carried out in the presence of senior administrative officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Gurdaspur, with the SDM confirming that all proceedings were conducted strictly in accordance with the court’s directions.

In a significant aspect of the case, Rajwinder Kaur, who is currently lodged in judicial custody in connection with an ongoing case, was brought to the polling venue under heavy police security following court orders to enable her participation in the election process.

The development has drawn considerable attention due to both the court’s direct oversight and the unique circumstances surrounding the winning candidate.
