Punjab to Host Hockey Asia Cup; Mann Announces Plan for International Cricket Stadium in Amritsar

Gurpreet Singh :- Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday said the state will host the upcoming Hockey Asia Cup championship, marking a significant sporting milestone for Punjab after several years. Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh on the completion of four years of the Aam Aadmi Party government, Mann said the tournament matches will be organised in Jalandhar at Burlton Park as well as in Mohali, with the final scheduled to take place around the 21st–22nd of the tournament period.

Highlighting future sports infrastructure plans, the Chief Minister also announced that the state government is exploring the development of an international cricket stadium in Amritsar. He said authorities are currently identifying suitable land while ensuring that essential requirements such as proximity to the airport and hotel facilities are met before moving forward with the project.

Speaking on the political landscape ahead of upcoming elections, Mann said the ruling party’s primary challenge is to surpass its own performance rather than compete with other political parties. At the same time, he warned that if the Bharatiya Janata Party were to form a government in Punjab, it could lead to heightened religious tensions in the state.

The Chief Minister said the government remains focused on strengthening infrastructure and promoting sports while continuing its development agenda across Punjab.
