Indian Citizen Injured, No Casualties Reported Among Indians After Al-Kharj Strike

Riyadh (Rajeev Sharma): The Indian Embassy in Riyadh has confirmed that no Indian nationals were killed in the projectile strike that hit a residential facility in Al-Kharj, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday evening. The diplomatic mission shared the update on Monday, bringing relief to the Indian community in the Kingdom.

In a statement posted online, the embassy said that although one Indian citizen was injured during the incident, there have been no reports of any Indian fatalities. The injured individual is currently undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Al-Kharj and is said to be receiving proper medical care.

Officials from the Indian mission have been coordinating closely with Saudi authorities to gather details about the incident. Y. Sabir, who serves as Counsellor for Community Welfare at the embassy, visited Al-Kharj late Sunday night and personally met the injured Indian national at the hospital to assess the situation and extend support.

Earlier reports from Saudi Civil Defence indicated that a projectile struck a residential compound used by workers of a maintenance and cleaning company. Initial statements suggested that two people had died in the blast and 12 others were injured. Among the deceased were reportedly a Bangladeshi citizen and another individual whose nationality had not been officially confirmed. Authorities have not publicly released the identities of those killed.

The strike occurred amid growing instability in the region. Late last month, the United States and Israel carried out joint military operations targeting Iran after tensions escalated over Tehran’s nuclear programme. The attacks were followed by retaliatory actions from Iran, raising concerns about a broader conflict affecting several Gulf countries.

Diplomatic missions and regional authorities continue to closely monitor the evolving security situation as tensions remain elevated across the Gulf.
