Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh) — A tragic incident of violence has claimed the life of an off-duty police constable in Jagdev Kalan village, located within the Rajasansi area of Amritsar. The victim, identified as Jagjit Singh, was serving as a dedicated security guard for a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Gurdaspur. According to local reports, the fatal assault occurred on Friday evening shortly after Singh returned home from his professional duties, apparently stemming from an ongoing domestic disagreement.
Witness accounts and statements from the victim’s wife, Harjeet Kaur, suggest that the confrontation was far from a random act of violence. She alleged that a local resident named Balraj Singh, who is also a relative of the family, arrived at their residence accompanied by a mob of eight to ten individuals in multiple vehicles. Without provocation, the group reportedly launched a coordinated attack on Jagjit Singh and other family members present at the scene.
The assailants were reportedly armed with iron rods and wooden sticks. During the ensuing scuffle, the constable sustained a catastrophic blow to the head with an iron rod, causing him to collapse instantly. The attackers fled the scene in their vehicles immediately following the assault. While the family made a desperate attempt to transport a semi-conscious Singh to a hospital in Amritsar for emergency medical intervention, he tragically succumbed to his injuries before they could reach the facility.
Station House Officer (SHO) Harsimrat Kaur of the Rajasansi police station confirmed that the department has taken swift action following the incident. Police teams arrived at the village to secure evidence and record the formal grievances of the grieving family. An First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the alleged perpetrators, and the body of the deceased has been moved to a mortuary in Ajnala for a post-mortem examination scheduled for Saturday morning.
The local community remains in a state of shock as the police continue their search for the suspects involved in the killing of one of their own. SHO Kaur assured the public that raids are being conducted to apprehend Balraj Singh and his accomplices, emphasizing that the law will take its full course to ensure justice for the fallen officer.
