Rajeev Sharma :- Escalating hostilities between United States, Israel and Iran have begun to cast a shadow far beyond the conflict zone, with ripple effects now impacting Indian travellers abroad. As airspace restrictions and flight suspensions disrupt international routes across the Middle East, several passengers from Punjab have found themselves stranded at Sharjah International Airport, facing mounting uncertainty and hardship.
Among them is Neeru Garg, a school principal from Bathinda, who released a video message detailing the distressing conditions at the airport. She stated that essential medicines for blood pressure and diabetes have run out, raising serious health concerns amid prolonged waiting and lack of clear communication. According to her, the situation has grown increasingly difficult with each passing hour, leaving passengers anxious and exhausted.
Garg further alleged that around 10 p.m., travellers were instructed to leave the airport premises without being given precise guidance on alternative arrangements. She expressed disappointment with airline authorities, including IndiGo, claiming that despite assurances that officials would assist passengers outside the terminal, no representatives were present upon arrival. With limited options and no formal support system in place, stranded travellers were forced to arrange accommodation independently.
After searching extensively, Garg and others reportedly secured rooms at a hotel nearly 20 kilometres away, paying high tariffs due to soaring demand. However, the temporary relief proved short-lived, as hotel management has now asked them to vacate, citing prior bookings. With funds running critically low and medical needs unmet, the stranded passengers find themselves in an increasingly precarious situation.
Appealing to the Government of India for immediate intervention, Garg has urged authorities to ensure safe evacuation and provide necessary assistance to affected citizens. She emphasised that uncertainty on foreign soil, compounded by health risks and financial strain, has created immense psychological pressure. As geopolitical tensions persist, families back home await swift action to bring their loved ones back safely.
