Dubai (Rajeev Sharma): Rising instability in West Asia has left several Indian nationals stuck overseas, including Olympic badminton champion PV Sindhu and Bollywood actor Sonal Chauhan, after flight operations were abruptly suspended in Dubai.
The travel chaos follows heightened military action in the region, which has led to precautionary airspace closures over parts of Iran and Iraq. As a result, multiple international carriers have either cancelled flights or altered routes, affecting passengers transiting through major Gulf hubs.
Sindhu Recounts Scare at Airport
Sindhu shared details of a tense episode at Dubai International Airport, revealing that an explosion was heard not far from where she and her team were stationed. She described the moment as alarming, noting that her coach had to quickly move away from smoke in the vicinity.
The shuttler later confirmed that airport officials relocated them to a safer area. She thanked local authorities and the Indian High Commission for their swift response and continued support, saying they are currently secure but waiting anxiously for clarity on onward travel.
Sonal Chauhan Appeals for Help
Chauhan, who rose to fame with Jannat, also spoke out about her situation. Through social media, she addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting assistance in arranging a safe return to India. She mentioned that flight cancellations have left her with limited options and no confirmed departure timeline.
Images circulating online depict crowded departure halls and long queues, reflecting the uncertainty faced by travellers as airlines await clearance to resume regular operations.
Airlines Issue Advisory
Indian carriers Air India and IndiGo have issued travel advisories, urging passengers to monitor official announcements. The airlines stated they are coordinating with aviation authorities and will restore services once security conditions stabilise.
With geopolitical tensions still unfolding, passengers in Dubai and other transit hubs remain on standby, hoping for safe passage home as diplomatic efforts continue behind the scenes.
