Security Forces Thwart Major Terror Plot in Poonch with Massive Explosives Seizure

Poonch (Gurpreet Singh): The Indian Army and specialized security units achieved a significant operational success on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, by neutralizing a potential terror threat in the border district of Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir. Following precise intelligence inputs regarding the movement of suspicious materials, a joint cordon-and-search operation was executed in the Kasbalari area under the jurisdiction of the Mendhar police station.

The high-stakes operation was conducted by a collaborative team consisting of the Army’s elite Ghatak platoon and the 39 Rashtriya Rifles. During a detailed sweep of the Salani neighborhood, security personnel discovered a concealed cache of lethal weaponry and explosives hidden inside a weathered black bag. The recovery included a large improvised explosive device (IED) weighing approximately 4.5 kg, a second smaller IED, two Chinese-made grenades, a 9 mm pistol with ammunition, and 22 rounds of 7.62 mm caliber bullets.

Adhering to strict safety protocols, the bomb disposal squad carried out controlled detonations to destroy the recovered IEDs and grenades at the site. Authorities confirmed that the disposal process was completed without any casualties or damage to nearby civilian property. This timely intervention is being hailed as a major victory in preventing planned anti-national activities and maintaining stability in the sensitive border region.
