Man from Gurdaspur dies in US after suffering seizure while driving for Uber

National Times Bureau :- A 34-year-old man from Punjab’s Gurdaspur district lost his life in the United States following a road accident reportedly triggered by a sudden seizure while he was driving Uber. The deceased, Gurpreet Singh, also known as JP, was a resident of village Gohat Pokhar in Gurdaspur, Punjab. He had moved to the US around eight years ago in search of better opportunities. According to family members, he had worked hard to establish himself and was running his own business. Alongside that, he was also driving his personal vehicle for Uber.

Relatives said the incident occurred on February 7 when Gurpreet was transporting passengers to their destination. While driving, he allegedly suffered a seizure, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The car crashed into a road divider, resulting in serious injuries. He reportedly sustained multiple wounds, including a severe spinal injury.

Family members stated that he was admitted to a hospital where doctors were treating him and his condition had shown signs of improvement. He was expected to be discharged within a day or two. However, during treatment, he suffered another medical attack and passed away in the hospital.

Gurpreet is survived by his wife and two young daughters, who were living with him in the US. His sister and extended in-laws are also settled there. Back home in Punjab, his parents and other relatives are devastated by the sudden loss.

His brother-in-law, Sharanjit Singh, described him as a hardworking and warm-hearted person. “He achieved everything through his own efforts, but destiny had other plans,” a family member said, expressing grief over the untimely death.

The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom not only over his village but also across the surrounding region, where he was known for his humble nature.

The bereaved family has urged both the Punjab and Central governments to create better employment opportunities within the state so that young people are not compelled to move abroad for livelihood. They also appealed to authorities to engage with the US government to safeguard the future of those who have already settled there after investing their life savings.
