Lamborghini Seized After Being Clocked at Nearly 200 km/h on Vancouver Bridge

Vancouver (Rajeev Sharma): A high-end Lamborghini SUV was impounded by traffic police this week after it was caught speeding at almost three times the permitted limit on a major bridge in Metro Vancouver, authorities said.

According to the B.C. Highway Patrol, the luxury vehicle was recorded travelling at 197 km/h in a 70 km/h zone on the Alex Fraser Bridge, which connects Delta and Richmond. The incident occurred shortly after 8 pm on February 4.

Police stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as a 51-year-old man from Surrey. Officials said multiple traffic violation notices were issued on the spot. The Lamborghini was ordered to be impounded for seven days, while the driver and two passengers were escorted away from the scene by family members.

B.C. Highway Patrol Corporal Michael McLaughlin warned against the misconception that bridges are exempt from speed monitoring. “Assuming that bridges are free from enforcement is both foolish and dangerous,” he said, adding that bridges have been the site of several fatal crashes in the past.

The driver was fined $483 for excessive speeding and an additional $109 for having illegal window tinting. Police also noted that the man will face at least three years of high-risk insurance premiums, pushing the estimated financial impact of the incident to around $2,500, excluding towing and impound charges.

During questioning, the driver reportedly told officers he was taking relatives visiting from abroad on a sightseeing drive across Metro Vancouver. Police said the episode instead highlighted the serious consequences of reckless driving.

Authorities reiterated that strict enforcement will continue on bridges and other high-risk stretches of road to ensure public safety.
