Mumbai ( National Times Bureau): A serious incident of alleged assault on film director Vinod Tiwari (50), an associate of the National Times Media Group, has been reported during his journey on the Punjab Mail Express (Train No. 12138), raising concerns over passenger safety on long-distance trains. Following the incident, an FIR has been registered at the Dadar Railway Police Station based on Vinod Tiwari’s statement.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on January 2, 2026, when Vinod Tiwari was travelling from Bhopal to Mumbai in Coach B-6, Seat No. 50. Shortly after departure from Bhopal, a co-passenger seated opposite him allegedly placed luggage on Tiwari’s seat without consent. When Vinod Tiwari politely objected, the individual allegedly responded with verbal abuse and threats.
It has been alleged that before the train reached Burhanpur railway station, the accused contacted several associates. At around 11:00 pm, when the train halted at Platform No. 1, Burhanpur, a group of 5–6 individuals allegedly attempted to forcibly pull Vinod Tiwari from his seat, assaulted him, and issued threats.
Vinod Tiwari stated that he managed to protect himself and immediately informed the Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) and registered a complaint through the Railway Helpline 139.
The main accused has been identified by Vinod Tiwari as Aslam Ahmed (approximately 35 years old), who was reportedly wearing a light green jacket at the time of the incident. Vinod Tiwari has also preserved photographs of the accused on his mobile phone as evidence.
Officials from the Dadar Railway Police Station confirmed that Vinod Tiwari’s statement has been recorded and the matter has been included in the FIR. Police officials said the investigation is underway and action will be taken as per law. As of now, no arrests have been officially confirmed.
Reacting to the incident, the National Times Media Group expressed serious concern and stated that it has requested the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and the Director General of Police (DGP), Maharashtra, to take strict action against the attackers and ensure justice for Vinod Tiwari. The media group has also urged the Railway Administration and state authorities to strengthen security arrangements on long-distance trains.
The incident has once again highlighted issues related to railway security, passenger safety, and law enforcement response, particularly on overnight long-distance services.
