National Times Bureau :- Punjabi film industry star Sonam Bajwa has once again found herself at the center of controversy after a dance performance in Goa during New Year celebrations triggered strong reactions on social media, particularly from sections of the Punjabi community.
Following the circulation of the performance video online, several users criticized Bajwa’s choice of attire and dance moves, arguing that they do not align with traditional Punjabi cultural values. The criticism quickly escalated, with some social media users accusing the actress of projecting a negative image of Punjabi culture through such public appearances.
The backlash intensified as harsh comments poured in, with a few users resorting to personal attacks and questioning her professional credibility. Comparisons with earlier times and strong remarks reflecting cultural dissatisfaction also surfaced, turning the issue into a broader debate about cultural representation by celebrities.
This is not the first time Sonam Bajwa has been drawn into controversy. In the past, she faced criticism during the shooting of a film at a mosque in Fatehgarh Sahib, where allegations of violating religious norms led to public outrage and a subsequent apology. On another occasion, objections were raised by Sikh bodies over scenes involving alcohol and smoking in one of her film trailers.
As of now, Sonam Bajwa has not issued any official response to the latest controversy. However, the incident has once again sparked discussions on social media about artistic freedom, cultural boundaries, and the responsibilities of public figures in the entertainment industry.
