People Have Completely Rejected Congress’ Actions and Policies: Haryana Chief Minister

Chandigarh, December 19: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday said that the opposition has been left without any real issues and is making baseless allegations out of frustration, as the public has completely rejected the actions and policies of the Congress.

Responding to a question raised by legislator BB Batra regarding the number of Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards during Question Hour on the second day of the winter session of the Haryana Assembly, the Chief Minister said such matters had already been explained in detail in the House during the previous session.

Saini said the government followed a transparent process in which citizens were asked to self-declare their income status and fill out forms if they fell under the BPL category. He pointed out that earlier governments had fixed the income limit at ₹1.20 lakh, while the present government raised it to ₹1.80 lakh, after which applications were invited. He added that it was clearly stated in the Assembly that verification would be carried out after elections and that ineligible names would be removed. “There is no question of any scam in this process,” he asserted.

Taking a dig at the opposition, the Chief Minister said BB Batra had cited a figure of eight lakh BPL cards, while in 2022 the number of ration cards exceeded 30 lakh. He questioned the source of the opposition’s data and remarked that during earlier regimes, genuinely poor people often failed to receive their entitlements, while benefits were cornered by others.

Hitting back at allegations of vote theft, Saini said voting is the constitutional right of the people and the electorate has decisively rejected Congress’ politics. “The opposition is frustrated because it has lost public confidence, and that is why such statements are being made,” he said.
