Second Ransom-Related Shooting Outside Surrey Restaurant Raises Safety Concerns; Police Say Extortion Suspected

Surrey ( Rajeev Sharma) : Gun Shots were fired for the second time outside the Paratha and Pasta restaurant in Surrey in what police believe is another ransom related extortion attempt. The latest incident occurred late at night, while staff members were still inside the restaurant. No one was injured, but the incident has heightened fear among workers and nearby business owners.

Police say officers responded to reports of gunfire and found evidence of shots striking the exterior of the business. The scene was secured, and investigators collected physical evidence while canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance footage.

In a statement, police said the shooting is believed to be linked to extortion activity and may be connected to other similar cases targeting businesses in Surrey.

“These incidents are extremely concerning. We are actively investigating and working with regional and federal partners to identify those responsible,” police said, adding that public cooperation will be critical to solving the case.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact authorities.

Meanwhile, community tension has increased as some desi leaders have publicly demanded that the Bishnoi gang be declared a terrorist organization. Critics argue that this political rhetoric has intensified the situation rather than calming it, and risks diverting attention from the core issues of organized extortion, targeted violence, and public safety.

Community members and business owners say the focus should remain on strong, coordinated law-enforcement action rather than public posturing. Police have echoed that sentiment, stressing that investigations must be allowed to proceed without distraction, and urging victims of extortion to come forward.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police say additional patrols and enforcement measures are being considered to prevent further incidents.
